WELCOME TO LATVIA!
Latvia, the pearl of the Baltic States, is one of the European Union member states and is situated in the North of Europe – on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Since ancient times Latvia has been at the cross-roads between East and West, North and South. Therefore, Latvia is a multi-cultured state, where the traditions of all these countries have merged, creating a unique environment, the like of which is not to be found anywhere in the world.
Historically, four regions have evolved in Latvia – Vidzeme, Kurzeme, Latgale and Zemgale. The differences are noticeable in their flora and fauna, their architecture, even in the habits and character of their inhabitants.
Vidzeme – bustling cities and splendiferous nature. Kurzeme – the land of the ancient Liv and Couronian people. Latgale – “The land of the blue lakes”, splendiferous landscapes, untouched nature. Zemgale – Latvia’s breadbasket with its most fertile soil, where farming has always been honoured.
