The international Taekwon-do ITF tournament “Baltic Tiger 2018” was successfully held
On March 31 and April 1, the international children-youth sports games “Baltic Tiger 2018” took place in the Riga National Sports Arena. The tournament was organized by the Latvian Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) with the support of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of Riga City Council.

The competition program includes a total of 6 disciplines – formal technical exercises, free sparring, team relay, gladiator fights, kick strength test and total kick energy test.
A total of 402 participants from 4 countries took part in the tournament. Represented countries – Lithuania, Russia, Estonia and Latvia, 165 athletes took part in individual competitions, 27 teams (108 athletes) took part in team competitions. The composition of the organizing committee and the panel of judges – 40 people, club coaches – 22 people. Guests with sports teams from Belarus and Armenia were planned, but the calendar plan of these countries was very busy on this date and unfortunately the teams could not come this year, although there was a lot of interest in the children-youth tournament.
The team of Estonian sports club Katleri from Tallinn won the most prized place (53 medals) in this tournament (23 gold, 16 silver, 14 bronze). Riga sports club “LTCS” ranks second with 33 medals (11 gold, 11 silver, 11 bronze). Estonian sports club “Kvon” from Mardu is in third place with 17 medals (8 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze). Athletes from Russia, Pskov, are in fourth place with 13 medals (7 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze).
The organizer of “Baltic Tigers” and the president of the Latvian Taekwon-do Federation – Master Vyacheslavs Semenkovs (8th Dan) believes that the involvement of the new generation in sports and practicing an active lifestyle is very relevant nowadays, and this type of sports festival and tournaments for children and young people are a good opportunity to focus on sports, as well as to develop together with peers by actively moving.
Along with the traditional Taekwon-do ITF competitions, attractive gladiatorial fights and team relays are organized, which create an opportunity for a wider range of interested people to start their sporting career even without serious previous experience.

“Baltic Tiger 2018” was held very successfully and in a positive atmosphere. Every year, this tournament attracts more and more new participants and visitors. In parallel with the traditional Taekwon-do ITF competition disciplines, the Latvian Taekwon-do Federation likes to organize exciting gladiator fights and team relays for children, which become more and more interesting and unpredictable every year. The Latvian Taekwon-do Federation awards not only the winners, but every participant of the tournament with memorable commemorative prizes, which are always excited not only by our domestic athletes, but also by foreign teams.
